In the last couple of posts, I talked a bit about the production of the upcoming Broken People record. I’ll pick that story back up at the next post, but I wanted to give you a few updates on some recent and upcoming happenings.

I went to the ER about a week ago with some absolutely horrible abdominal pain. The pain started sometime early that morning and grew more intense as the hours passed. Eventually, the pain hit that threshold—you know the one I’m talking about—when you start thinking that something might be wrong. So, off to the ER. Turns out [...] Read More

My dear friends, if you haven’t caught the updates via Twitter, Broken People officially went to press on Friday. I wiped a little tear as I waved goodbye. What left me as a small package of CDs will return in many boxes (with much prettier packaging, too). I can’t wait to start mailing rewards out to all of the patient and loyal project fuelers who made this whole thing possible!

So, let’s carry on with the production story, shall we? After drums and bass, we commenced on recording guitars. During tracking, there’s usually an auditioning process of microphones and preamps; we [...] Read More

When we started the RocketHub campaign to fuel the new record, Broken People, it was hard to believe we’d ever make it.  It was, after all, a pretty lofty goal to raise $5,000 for an artist who hadn’t played a solo live show in over a year.  We did it, though.  In fact, we even surpassed our goal.  It could not have happened without the generous support of the project fuelers.  It’s nearly time to send out the well-deserved rewards!

The RocketHub campaign finished in the first few days of September, and we officially started production on Broken People in the [...] Read More

Thanks to Jason (Hendersonville, TN), the newest fueler of Banks Nelson:  Going for Broke for Broken People!  Jason is a worship coordinator at a church just outside of Nashville and is well acquainted with broken people.  Here are some of his thoughts about the intersection of brokenness and the arts.

1. The new Banks Nelson record is about broken people. What do you think of when you hear the word “broken”? What images come to mind?

The image that comes to mind is a picture of me & some orphans from a recent trip to Haiti. It’s easy to look into that [...] Read More

We’re getting down to the wire!  Just 1 day left to fuel Banks Nelson:  Going for Broke for Broken People!  Will we make it?  I don’t know…  I say we can do it.

Here are some thoughts from our newest project fueler, Jalon, a self-proclaimed music junkie and filmmaker from Dallas, Texas.

1. The new Banks Nelson record is about broken people. What do you think of when you hear the word “broken”? What images come to mind?

When I hear broken, I think of something pushed further then its original intent. Further than its capacity weight. Chairs being overused, electronics overworked…people having [...] Read More

The countdown continues, folks…  8 days left and counting!  Remember, if we don’t hit our target fuel level, everybody gets their money back and none of us gets anything!  And that’s no good, because we’ve spent too much time and energy to let this project go unmade. For the third interview in our series, we interviewed Nicole (Murfreesboro, TN), a recent fueler of Banks Nelson:  Going for Broke for Broken People.  A talented photographer and artist, Nicole had some good things to say about the intersection of broken people and art:

For our second Broken People blog, we interviewed Diane, a registered nurse from Chicago.  She recently fueled Banks Nelson:  Going for Broke for Broken People, and she had some wonderful things to say about her role in mending the broken things around her.

1. The new Banks Nelson record is about broken people. What do you think of when you hear the word “broken”? What images come to mind?

When I think of the word “broken” I think of something that’s not whole. Not that anything is necessarily missing but that in some way, the whole is not together. As a nurse [...] Read More

1.  The new Banks Nelson record is about broken people.  What do you think of when you hear the word “broken”?  What images come to mind?

I think of hurting people when I hear the word “broken”. I think of people feeling the consequences of poor decisions either by themselves or others or people feeling alone after severed relationships.

2.  How do [...] Read More
